Prequalfication refers to an estimate for credit given by a lender based on information provided by a borrower. Also called approval and preapproval, it’s the process of determining how much money the borrower is eligible to borrow to buy or refinance a home, usually before they apply for a loan. At a minimum, the mortgage lender will ask about borrower's income and assets and check their credit.
